Embracing imperfection with the Japanese art of kintsugi
Naoko Fukumaru practices kintsugi from her studio in Vancouver. Kintsugi is the centuries old Japanese art form of mending broken ceramics and highlighting their imperfection using gold powder. Fukumaru’s life was transformed by the kintsugi philosophy of celebrating the beauty of brokenness. She demonstrates the six stages of kintsugi, which include reassembling, filling, sanding, applying lacquer and gold powdering. Short documentary produced for CBC Creator Network.
