A male pedestrian who was on the Red Hill Valley Parkway died after being struck by a vehicle on Saturday night, police say.

Paramedics responded to a report of a person who was struck in the northbound lanes of the parkway just north of King Street at roughly 11 p.m., Hamilton police said in a Sunday morning news release.

The 29-year-old died at the scene and the driver of the grey Chrysler vehicle, along with two passengers inside, remained there and co-operated with investigators, police say.

Police didn't offer details as to how or why the man was on the parkway. CBC Hamilton has contacted police for more details.

The parkway was closed northbound between King Street East and Queenston Road and closed southbound between the QEW and King Street East, according to police.

Police said "affected stretches" of the parkway were closed on Sunday, but reopened just before 10:45 a.m.
