Stompin' Tom Connors is being honoured on a new postage stamp.
The stamp was released by Canada Post at a ceremony in Alberton, P.E.I., Thursday, not far from Skinner's Pond, where Stompin' Tom grew up.
The singer, 73, is one of four Canadian musicians appearing on a quartet of stamps.
"We're pretty excited," said Denise Corra, Canada Post spokeswoman. "These are very, very popular stamps, and of course, Stompin' Tom Connors is a Canadian icon. He's written more than 300 songs, produced about 50 albums. He's been a staunch supporter of the Canadian music scene. He's made quite a difference, and so it's very, very, exciting."
Connor's image joins those of rock star Bryan Adams, French-Canadian rock artist Robert Charlebois, and Acadian singer Édith Butler.
The stamp series celebrates the efforts of musicians who've made "remarkable" contributions to Canadian music by keep talent in the country, according to Canada Post.
It is a sequel to the 2007 Canadian Recording Artists series that featured Paul Anka, Gordon Lightfoot, Joni Mitchell and Anne Murray.
Four million stamps were printed. They are sold in a booklet of eight, and 275,000 souvenir sheets containing four PVA gum stamps are presented in a CD format.
Connors, who was born in Saint John and grew up in Skinners Pond, P.E.I., is a recipient of the Order of Canada and the Governor General's Award of Performing Excellence.
