An Alberta gravel truck driver has been convicted of careless driving in a crash with a school bus that killed a teenage girl near Rimbey, Alta.
Peter Oliver Jorgensen, 28, was also convicted Wednesday of driving too fast for road conditions. He was fined $2,000, but his driver's licence was not suspended, according to local reports.
Jennifer Noble, 17, of Rimbey, died after she was ejected from the bus in the accident on April 9, 2008.
The road was thick with fog that day, and Jorgensen had testified visibility was poor.
Court had previously heard in an agreed statement of facts that Jorgensen first struck a sport utility vehicle before his truck veered into the back of the school bus.
The driver of the school bus, Ron Adam, will go on trial in October on a charge of failing to unload and load at a safe place or time under school bus operation regulations.
Rimbey is about 140 kilometres southwest of Edmonton.
