A 15-month-old boy was hit and seriously injured Friday by an Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer moving a car on a driveway in Oxford Station, Ont., according to Ontario's Special Investigations Unit (SIU), which investigates cases where police injure civilians.
The OPP issued a statement about the noon-hour incident on Saturday morning, writing that SIU was looking into what happened.
The on-duty officer was moving a personal vehicle in their own driveway, according to the OPP.
The boy is now in stable condition and remains in hospital, according to the SIU, which would not comment to Radio-Canada but issued its own news release(external link) Saturday afternoon.
"Our thoughts are with the child's family and everyone impacted by this tragic incident," wrote OPP in its statement.
Oxford Station is about 50 kilometres south of downtown Ottawa.
