A 40-year-old Brantford man has been charged with second-degree murder after a residential fire left a 49-year-old woman dead and three people injured, police said.
Brantford police said Monday evening they're investigating the fire as a criminal incident alongside the Office of the Fire Marshall.

At around 11 a.m. that morning, Brantford police posted to X they were assisting the local fire department at a residential fire on the same street.
The woman, who police said resided in the home, was transported to hospital and later died.
"Three other adults were present in the home at the time of the fire and were transported to hospital for treatment," police said. The extent of their injuries is not known.
In a news release Tuesday afternoon, police said they charged a 40-year-old man. He's scheduled for a video remand bail hearing on Wednesday.
