The union representing education support workers across the province says it has reached a tentative agreement with the Foothills School Division, while two other divisions have voted to ratify tentative deals, another step toward the end of weeks-long job action in Alberta.
The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) said Wednesday that its locals have reached a tentative deal with Foothills, south of Calgary, while Parkland School Division west of Edmonton and the Edmonton Public School District accepted their tentative agreements, ending their strikes.
CUPE members at Edmonton Public School District voted 93 per cent in favour of accepting their settlement, while members at Parkland Division voted 97 per cent in favour, the union said.
Both groups will return to work tomorrow, now that agreements have been reached, CUPE says.
The union expects members at Foothills School Division to hold ratification votes Thursday and Friday. If the agreement is accepted, they will return to work on Monday, according to CUPE.
Agreements with members at the Calgary Board of Education and Black Gold School Division were also ratified Wednesday, CUPE says.
Return to work is scheduled for tomorrow at Black Gold and Friday at the Calgary Board, according to the union.
Currently, there are ratified agreements at Fort McMurray Catholic Schools, Fort McMurray Public Schools, Edmonton Public Schools, Calgary Board of Education, Black Gold School Division and Parkland School Division.
Workers at Calgary Catholic School District, Sturgeon Public Schools and Foothills School Division have reached tenative deals.
