Public may have been exposed at 4 places in Mississauga, health agency says
Peel Public Health is warning the public that they may have been exposed to measles at four locations in Mississauga, after confirming a new case of the virus.
The measles case confirmed last Friday, March 14 is the fourth case in Peel region so far in 2025, the public health agency says.
Anyone who was present at the following locations in Mississauga during certain times may have been exposed to the virus:
- Hazel McCallion Central Library on March 7 between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m.
- Multi-Specialty Med Clinic from 7 p.m. on March 8 until 1 a.m. on March 9.
- Aboud Health Group on March 10 between 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
- Credit Valley Hospital Emergency Room on March 11 between 10:30 a.m. and 9:55 p.m.
The health agency says anyone who was in those locations at those times should check their immunization record to make sure they and their family members are up to date on their measles vaccinations. You can check with your health-care provider if you're unsure.
Those experiencing symptoms, such as high fever, cough, red rash and red, watery eyes, are advised to contact their health-care provider and stay home from work or school.
Measles is a highly contagious disease, PPH warns, and it poses an increased risk of health complications to infants under the age of one, as well as unimmunized pregnant people and people with weakened immune systems.
As of March 12, Public Health Ontario is reporting 350 total measles cases, since an outbreak began last October — the most severe outbreak in the province in more than a decade.
