Windsor police have arrested a 28-year-old driver and say a loaded firearm was found in her truck
The driver of a rental moving truck struck and killed a 27-year-old woman in the 4700 block of Tecumseh Road E., say Windsor police.
The fatal collision happened shortly before 7 p.m. Saturday. Police officers were sent to the 4700 block of Tecumseh Rd. E., where they say a rental moving truck drove onto the sidewalk, struck a pedestrian, and crashed into a commercial building.
"The pedestrian, a 27-year-old woman, was pronounced deceased at the scene," the police said in a Sunday news release.
Shattered glass and debris were present at the scene Sunday afternoon and the impacted parts of the business, Windsor Trim Supplier, had wooden panels sealing the damaged area.
Windsor police arrested the 28-year-old woman who they say was driving the truck. They say the area was closed for several hours while members of the Windsor Police Collision Reconstruction and Forensic Identification Units processed the scene.
CBC spoke with businesses in the vicinity that described heavily backed up traffic and sirens sounding late into evening.
"During a search of the rental truck, officers located and seized a loaded firearm." the police said.
The arrested driver will face the following charges:
- Possession of a loaded firearm
- Possession of a firearm with an altered serial number
- Possession of a firearm with no licence
- Occupying a motor vehicle with a firearm

The investigation is ongoing and police said additional charges are anticipated.
Anyone who witnessed the collision, or has information or video footage of the incident, is being asked to contact the Windsor Police Service Traffic Enforcement Unit.
