Scott Eashappie tells CBC News the charges are a 'political smoke show'
The Chief of Carry the Kettle Nakoda Nation, Scott Eashappie, has been arrested in connection to an ongoing financial crimes investigation.
The 37-year-old is charged with fraud, theft, money laundering and breach of trust, according to a news release Wednesday afternoon from the File Hills First Nations Police Service.
In a text to CBC News later that evening, Eashappie called the charges a "political smoke show" and said he plans to "take actions."
Eashappie is scheduled to appear in Indian Head provincial court on May 6.
Carry the Kettle Nakoda Nation is located 85 kilometres east of Regina.
