The emergency department at the Halifax Infirmary will soon issue a pass to each visitor upon entry, following a violent incident at the facility last month.
In a news release Wednesday, Nova Scotia Health said the pilot program is designed to "enhance security and safety at the site."
In January, three health-care workers were attacked in the ER, and two of them stabbed.

In the wake of that incident, more security was hired and a walk-thru metal detector was added to the site.
Wearable passes will be issued upon arrival starting Thursday, said Nova Scotia Health, and security will log the time of entry and departure of each visitor.
Passes must remain visible at all times, the health authority said, and re-screening will be required for anyone who leaves the emergency department for any reason.
