A former N.W.T. MLA has been charged with refusing to provide a breath sample to police.
According to court documents, Steve Norn, the former MLA for Tu Nedhé-Wiilideh, was pulled over in Yellowknife on Nov. 28. The RCMP officer asked him to provide a breath sample to test the blood alcohol concentration in his system. Police say Norn refused, which is a criminal offence.
The case was briefly in court in Yellowknife on Tuesday. It's been adjourned to Feb. 25.
Norn, 48, said he wouldn't comment because the case is before the courts.
His first term as an MLA was cut short three years ago when he was convicted of violating COVID-19 isolation rules after travelling outside the territory. He resigned moments before MLAs voted to expel him from the assembly.
Norn then ran in a byelection to fill the seat he vacated. He finished third out of four candidates.
Two years ago, Norn, who is a former RCMP officer, was charged with assault. That charge was later stayed.
