Liberals have 12 straight wins in this suburban riding

Ottawa South consists of the suburban area south of the Rideau River and Highway 417, butting up against the Greenbelt as its southern border.
Nearly 20 per cent of respondents to the 2021 census reported speaking neither English nor French most often at home, with more than 1,000 Arabic, Mandarin and Spanish speakers among them.
Created in the early 1970s, the Progressive Conservatives won this riding five times in a row. The Liberals turned it in 1987 under Dalton James McGuinty, the father of former premier Dalton McGuinty, and have held it through 11 more votes since.
About 45 per cent of ballots cast in 2022 were for John Fraser, the Liberal MPP since 2013.
Five candidates are running for the seat.
With advance voting done and mail voting applications closed, voting is still possible at local election offices until Wednesday at 6 p.m.
Voting day is Thursday, with polls open from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Elections Ontario has more information(external link) on the range of voting options.

Nira Dookeran, Green

Dookeran is a community organizer and retired high school teacher who finished fourth in this riding in the 2022 election.

John Fraser, Liberal

Before his election, Fraser managed local businesses, volunteered in and campaigned for local hospitals, and coached football.

Jan Gao, PC

Gao is a consultant with a master of public administration from Queen's University.

Morgan Gay, NDP

A federal public service union negotiator and local community association director, Gay finished second here in the 2022 election.
