Get ready for flurries and snow squalls off Lake Huron through Wednesday, with heavy and blowing snow reducing visibility in some parts of the region, making driving hazardous.
A snow squall warning for London, Parkhill, and Eastern Middlesex County calls for between 15 and 25 cm of snow in some areas, with strong lake-effect squalls expected to arrive in the city proper around 9 p.m., Environment Canada said.
"Snow squalls [will intensify] this evening and overnight, probably reaching a peak tomorrow," said Peter Kimbell, a meteorologist with Environment Canada.
The forecast calls for between 10 and 15 cm of snow, with an additional 10 cm on Wednesday.
The weather agency's travel advisory urges everyone to take care when travelling.
"As many people in the area have seen before, snow squall activity is going to be pretty hazardous to driving," Kimbell said.
Temperatures will drop to -9 C, feeling more like - 16 with windchill. A low of -12 C, feeling more like - 17, is expected on Wednesday.
There is a notable difference in temperature compared to the bulk of December and the beginning of January so far, which saw warmer-than-average temperatures.
"We're kind of heading down into what are more typical temperatures for this time of year," Kimbell said.
Possible flurries are forecast for the rest of the week and into the weekend.
