A 33-year-old woman is charged with second-degree murder in the death of a man from northern Manitoba who was assaulted on Dugas Street in St. Boniface in late December.

Police arrested Anissa&nbsp;Christy Pompana on Arlington Street north of Notre Dame Avenue on Thursday in connection with the killing of Byron Frederick Moose, 50, on Dec. 27, police said in an update on Monday.&nbsp;

Investigators said Moose and Pompana&nbsp;previously didn't know each other but met at a place they both went. They left the location together and went to Dugas Street, where Pompana allegedly&nbsp;assaulted Moose, police said in a news release.

Paramedics were called and gave Moose emergency medical care around 4:30 a.m. He was taken to hospital in critical condition and later died.&nbsp;

Moose is a member of O-Pipon-Na-Piwin Cree Nation in northern Manitoba, at South Indian Lake.&nbsp;

Pompana remains in custody and the homicide unit continues to investigate, police said.

Family and friends gather to remember OCN man killed on Winnipeg's Dugas Street

Family and friends came together Tuesday to honour a man who was killed on Winnipeg's Dugas Street late last week.

People gathered in a circle, with their heads lowered.

Several dozen people attended a vigil in remembrance of Byron Frederick Moose on Tuesday. Moose was found in critical condition on Dugas Street early Friday morning. He died in hospital of his injuries.

Winnipeg police have identified a man who died in hospital after being found seriously injured early Friday morning.

Police say Byron Frederick Moose's family has been notified of his death. He was found injured in Winnipeg's Maginot area last week.
