An Aurora, Ont., man is facing several charges after packages containing "firearm devices" and 3D manufacturing equipment typically used to build printed semi-automatics were discovered at mail facilities in Ontario and B.C. late last year, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) says.

In a news release issued Monday, the CBSA said border services officers at international mail and cargo processing facilities in Mississauga and Vancouver intercepted multiple falsely declared packages that were being sent to the same address.

Those packages contained "various prohibited firearm devices and 3D manufacturing equipment, typically used to build AR-15 (semi-automatic rifle) style firearms," the news release reads.

Then, on Nov. 12, officers carried out a search warrant at a 33-year-old man's home in Aurora and seized multiple items including 3D-manufactured prohibited firearms and devices, two 3D printers, and various additional AR parts, tools, and accessories, the CBSA says.

The man now faces multiple charges, including smuggling prohibited devices, manufacturing firearms and unauthorized possession of a restricted firearm.

"Our Intelligence and Criminal Investigations team were vigilant throughout the investigation into this attempt at cross-border smuggling and successfully prevented these illicit firearms and prohibited devices from reaching our communities," said Abeid Morgan, of the CBSA Ontario firearms smuggling enforcement team, in a statement.
