A 20-day trial has been scheduled in 2026 for a man accused of killing a 52-year-old man last spring in Pointe-Sapin.
Alphonse Daigle, 71, faces a charge of first-degree murder.
He's accused of killing André Després in Pointe-Sapin, a small community about 130 kilometres north of Moncton.
Daigle appeared Monday in Moncton's Court of King's Bench, where Justice Robert Dysart set trial dates. Daigle's jury trial was scheduled to start May 4, 2026, and continue to June 1, 2026.
Voir dires, hearings held before a trial to determine if evidence is admissible, still need to be scheduled.
Richibucto RCMP previously said police were called to a residence in the community just after 2 p.m. on April 13, 2024, after reports of a shooting.
When officers arrived, they found one man dead at the residence. They arrested Daigle, who has been in custody since then.
