Man killed in single-vehicle crash near Smiths Falls, Ont.

A 31-year-old man is dead following a single-vehicle crash south of Smiths Falls early into New Year's Day, Ontario Provincial Police said.
OPP responded to the scene on County Road 29 shortly after 3:30 a.m. ET Wednesday, alongside other emergency services, a news release said.
The vehicle veered off the road, entered a ditch and struck a tree, then later caught fire.
A man from Jasper, Ont., was the only one in the vehicle, and pulled out by a passerby and a Smiths Falls Police Service officer, said the release.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.
The collision under investigation, with assistance from an OPP collision reconstructionist.
