Suspects arrested in 3 of 4 major incidents
Several serious crimes committed were committed in Prince Albert, Sask., over the days surrounding Christmas, culminating in a police chase and a cab driver being shot.
On Dec. 24, police reported that a 31-year-old woman was stabbed and had her truck stolen. Police found the truck less than 20 minutes later. The victim was brought to the hospital for more care.
The suspect in that case has now been arrested.
On the morning of Dec. 25, Prince Albert police were called after two people were reportedly trying to provoke other drivers by driving erratically near a local Tim Hortons. Police were told the two suspects eventually got out of the vehicle wearing masks and threatened another driver with guns.
The suspects fled the scene when police arrived and have not been arrested.
Later on Dec. 25, a different suspect was arrested for allegedly stabbing two people. In that case, the suspect and victims are believed to have known each other.
Also on Christmas, Prince Albert police responded to a report of a robbery by another suspect. That turned into a multi-hour crime spree that ended with the suspect being arrested after a police chase.
It started with a carjacking around 5 p.m. CST. A man had been offered a ride, then threatened the driver at gunpoint before stealing in his vehicle.
Around 10 p.m. CST, police were called to a Circle K after reports of a robbery by what they later learned was the same suspect.
Police found the suspect's vehicle several hours later and witnessed him rob a cab driver before fleeing in the first stolen vehicle. After a chase, the suspect crashed into a tree and then tried to flee on foot before being arrested.
The cab driver suffered a gunshot wound and was treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to the hospital. Police believe his injuries are non-life-threatening.
The 25-year-old suspect is facing charges of armed robbery, possession of a firearm, discharging a firearm with intent, resisting arrest, dangerous driving, failure to comply with court ordered conditions and several other firearms charges.
He is also facing charges related to a robbery on Nov. 30 and had failed to attend court for another robbery that occurred in August.
Prince Albert Police Service acting Sgt. Dwight LeBlue said it was a hectic stretch.
"We had a busy couple of days there with some serious stuff going on," he said, but commended officers on quickly apprehending all but the Tim Hortons suspects.
