The first player ever signed to the Winnipeg Sea Bears is in hospital following an unexpected medical incident.
Chad Posthumus suffered a brain aneurysm during a training session on Saturday and he is in stable condition, according to a Sea Bears Instagram post(external link).
The six-foot-10 centre from Winnipeg is expected to require additional medical attention, the post adds.
Last season, Posthumus played in 19 of the 20 Sea Bears regular-season contests. He averaged 5.8 points and 3.7 rebounds per game in his second season with the Canadian Elite Basketball League team.
He helped Winnipeg advance to the playoffs for a second straight season, only to lose 84-82 to the Calgary Surge in a play-in game.
