Periods of heavy rain and thunderstorms will end&nbsp;Wednesday evening, following an active day across the province.

Many areas across southern and eastern Nova Scotia saw heavy downpours and thunderstorms on Wednesday.

Cape Breton was especially hit hard with many areas of Victoria County picking up more than 50 millimetres&nbsp;of rain in just a few hours.

Baddeck recorded 76 millimetres&nbsp;in two&nbsp;hours, Wreck Cove received 61 millimetres in 90 minutes and Ingonish recorded 55 millimetres&nbsp;in just one hour.

While the downpours and storms will not be nearly as widespread, the risk will be there again on Thursday afternoon and evening, so keep your eye on the sky.

Following an isolated chance for showers on Friday afternoon, the weekend is looking nice across Nova Scotia with sun and cloud and temperatures&nbsp;in the mid 20s.&nbsp;

Beyond that, we'll need to keep a close eye on the track of Hurricane Ernesto, which looks set to move into Atlantic Canadian waters early next week.

Nova Scotia Power ordered to file yearly report on how it's greening the grid

The provincial regulator has ordered Nova Scotia Power to report on its progress to decarbonize the grid every year leading up to a major deadline to retire its coal-fired plants and hit 80 per cent renewable energy by 2030.

Fresh start for Halifax green-thumbers as longtime community garden moves

The Prescott Street Community Garden established roots in Halifax’s North End about 20 years ago, but now its members are relocating and rebuilding. The community garden will be removed from Halifax Water's Robie Street reservoir property as the utility moves ahead with upgrades.
