Canadian cyclist Dylan Bibic outlasted his competition and captured gold at the UCI Track Nations Cup on Friday in Milton, Ont.
The 20-year-old Mississauga, Ont., native was the last rider on the track in the men's elimination race, finishing ahead of Japan's Shunsuke Imamura (silver) and Mark Stewart of Great Britain (bronze).
"It's an amazing feeling winning in front of the home crowd," he told Union Cycliste Internationale. "This is my third year here and first time getting a medal."
Bibic added with "the right training" he can capture an Olympic medal this summer in Paris.
Canadians also got on the podium in the men's team sprint event, where Ryan Dodyk, James Hedgecock and Tyler Rorke took bronze and qualified for this summer's Paris Olympics. The Netherlands finished first and Great Britain took silver.
Olympic gold medallist Kelsey Mitchell and her teammates Lauriane Genest and Sarah Orban finished just off the podium, coming fourth in team sprint after Poland beat them in the bronze-medal round. The Netherlands came first, and Mexico finished second.
