This year's arrivals carpet — which is back to a classic red colour after a temporary switch to champagne in 2023 — welcomed many of the biggest stars in Hollywood for the 2024 Academy Awards(external link).
Arguably the finale event of awards season, the Oscars typically offer some of the most exciting and formal fashion of the year, and this year's ceremony didn't disappoint (although the men's looks could have been more exciting).
Here are our 12 favourite Oscars 2024 red carpet looks.

The Canadian actor wore a floor-length black-and-white gown from Lebanese fashion designer Zuhair Murad's Spring 2024 collection, with platform heels by Flor de Maria and a loose up-do.

Leah Lewis

Lewis looked ethereal in a pale pink frock with an asymmetrical hem and thigh-high slit by Lever Couture. Her clear heels added to the overall airiness of the look, put together by fashion stylist Ana Tanaka.

Gabrielle Union-Wade

We're obsessed with Union-Wade's Carolina Herrera by Wes Gordon look, worn to the Oscars with Tiffany & Co. jewelry. She's worn Carolina Herrera often, and this regal look is actually a mash-up of two Pre-Fall 2024 collection pieces — a mini dress and a maxi skirt — layered together.

Simu Liu

The Barbie star and Canadian actor — who walked the red carpet with girlfriend Allison Hsu in great strapless satin gown — in a sleek black suit, no shirt look from Fendi. It's his accessories that make the difference here, including the heeled patent leather boots, purple Jacob & Co. watch and crystal pin on his jacket.

Sandra Hüller

Hüller, a German actor and Best Actress nominee, proves that it's possible to stand out even in a minimalist black gown. She's in a strapless Schiaparelli gown with dramatic, angled shoulders and Cartier jewelry; the look is styled by her go-to fashion stylist Jordan Johnson Chung.

Hailee Steinfeld

The actor and singer, who works with fashion stylists Rob Zangardi and Mariel Haenn, wore Elie Saab couture and Chopard jewelry to the Oscars. The sheer cape-sleeve was beautiful in movement, and her clean, low bun with a side part kept the look from getting too pretty.

Quannah Chasinghorse

The model and actor wore a floor-length, patterned dress with feather detailing over one shoulder by Red Berry Woman, designed by Norma Baker-Flying Horse. We also like the matching red lipstick and eye-catching gold-tone jewelry.

Lupita Nyong'o

Featuring an abundance of feathers and sequins, this v-neck, custom Giorgio Armani Privé gown dress on Nyong'o is dramatic and formal without feeling fussy. Plus, the diamond jewelry from De Beers complements the look, instead of competing with it.

Emma Stone

ICYMI, peplums are back in fashion. We like the longer, more flattering version here on the Oscar nominee's strapless, pale green Louis Vuitton gown.

Colman Domingo

A Best Actor nominee, Domingo wore a double-breasted black tuxedo by Louis Vuitton with embellished cowboy boots and some great David Yurman jewelry. If anything, Domingo's winning look showcases the importance of fit when it comes to suiting.

Ariana Grande

Grande, a presenter at this year's Oscars, stole the red carpet in a bubblegum-pink strapless gown with a fitted bodice, voluminous hip detail and dramatic train by Giambattista Valli. The matching heels and Tiffany & Co. jewelry add a nice touch, too.

Carey Mulligan

Mulligan's strapless black-and-white Balenciaga gown (a mini trend on this year's red carpet) has a beautiful scalloped, mermaid hem and fitted bodice. Styled with simple drop earrings and matching black opera gloves, the look beautifully evokes classic glamour.
