Two people have been charged after Brandon police found nine kilograms of fentanyl — with an estimated street value of $1.1 million — during a traffic stop near Brandon.

Brandon police and Manitoba RCMP&nbsp;found the&nbsp;fentanyl&nbsp;last Thursday, when they stopped the vehicle for a traffic violation at about 11:30 a.m., Brandon police said in a statement Tuesday.

The vehicle was stopped about five kilometres west of Brandon while police&nbsp;were conducting a traffic enforcement initiative on the Trans-Canada Highway in and around Brandon, police say.

Officers searched the vehicle, which had a Manitoba license plate,&nbsp;and found a bag of&nbsp;fentanyl inside.

A 27-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman are charged with possessing drugs for the purpose of trafficking. They were scheduled to make their first court appearance on Friday.

Manitoba Hydro may need new sources of power by 2029

Manitoba spending more than $1.3M to eliminate wait list for school meal programs

The province is putting up more money to help students at nearly 70 Manitoba public schools get healthy meals each day.

Universal school meal program

The province is spending $1.37 million more to support the Child Nutrition Council of Manitoba's school meal programs this year, Premier Wab Kinew announced Tuesday. It will also be spending $30 million each year to establish a universal school meal program for all Manitoba public schools by the 2024-25 school year.
