Person rescued after fire in downtown Windsor highrise apartment building

The individual from a 17th-floor unit was taken to hospital with unknown injuries
A person has been rescued from a highrise apartment building in downtown Windsor as a result of a fire.
The person was taken to hospital with unknown injuries.
The fire at 920 Ouellette Ave. was first reported by Windsor Fire & Rescue just before 8 a.m. ET Wednesday on their account for X, formerly known as Twitter.
It was contained to one unit on the 17th floor, according to fire officials.
District Chief Chris Revenberg said they responded with added firefighters and vehicles because they weren't sure what they were initially dealing with.
"Once we had crews inside, we realized we didn't have any spread," he said.
"The concern is with the size of the building and the spread of smoke … that's why we had so many units [responding]."
The building is located between Erie Street and Elliott Street.
Fire officials said the blaze is now out and crews are ventilating parts of the complex.
The cause is still unknown at this time.
