The south-central Winnipeg riding of St. Vital has been around since 1958, flipping between the Progressive Conservatives and NDP throughout its history (with the exception of the 1988 election, when the riding voted Liberal).
Its boundaries changed significantly during the 2018 riding redistribution, when the riding expanded to include almost half of the northern part of the Riel riding to the west.
The St. Vital riding now runs between Abinojii Mikanah (formerly Bishop Grandin Boulevard) to the south and the Red River, St. Mary's Road and Fermor Avenue to the north. Its eastern boundary runs along the Seine River, while its western boundary runs along the Red River.
The riding includes the Winnipeg neighbourhoods of Kingston Crescent, Norberry, Worthington, Victoria Crescent and Pulberry.
Its population is 22,825 with a median age of 40, which is slightly older than the provincial median age of 38.4, according to Elections Manitoba's riding profile (which is based on 2021 census data). The median household income is $65,000, the riding profile says.
