Child found safe at Waterloo home on Tuesday; mother being taken to Winnipeg: Mounties
A 35-year-old Winnipeg woman suspected of abducting her three-year-old child was arrested in southern Ontario on Tuesday, Manitoba RCMP say.
A tip from the public led police to the woman and her child at a home in Waterloo, Ont., on Tuesday, RCMP said in a Wednesday news release.
The three-year-old was found safe and is currently being cared for by another family member, RCMP said.
The girl's 35-year-old mother was arrested and will be taken back to Winnipeg.
Police previously said they were notified about a custody dispute between the woman and the child's father on July 7. The 35-year-old was believed to have taken custody of her child with the intent to deprive the father of his parental rights, police said.
Police in Stratford, Ont., about 40 kilometres southwest of Waterloo, said Monday it was possible that the two were in the area. RCMP issued an arrest warrant for the child's mother.
CBC News has removed the names and photos of the mother and her child to protect the child's identity.
