Midtown councillor has put out plenty of policy on the campaign trail
Mayoral candidate Josh Matlow made his pitch to Toronto voters Wednesday on CBC Radio's Metro Morning, saying he would improve livability and not let Queen's Park "roll over" the city.
The sitting St. Paul's councillor said basic services have been allowed to decline for "too many years" and that previous mayors have not been honest about what it will take to pay for the city's priorities.
Matlow said that, as mayor, his vision would include:
- Improving key services like the TTC and snow clearing, paid for in part with a new property tax that he says would cost average homeowners roughly $67 per year.
- "Setting boundaries" with the province and Premier Doug Ford, who Matlow called a "bully" who "gets his way every single time."
- Building new housing by focusing on a wholistic approach to neighbourhoods.

Who is Matlow?
Here's a backgrounder from CBC Toronto's Shawn Jeffords:
Matlow is one of Toronto's most vocal councillors and has put forward a wide range of policy proposals since entering the mayoral race.
Those policies come with a price tag and a plan to pay for them.
But Matlow's challenge — and one his rivals will be keen to point out — will be getting his agenda passed if he's elected.
He has often struggled to find support on city council and on principal has said he will not use the "strong mayor" powers granted to Toronto's leader by Doug Ford's government.
You can find the full list of candidates on the city's website.
On Monday, CBC Toronto spoke with candidate Ana Bailão. You can listen to that discussion here.
