Nova Scotia RCMP are investigating the sudden death of a man who was arrested Thursday night following an emergency alert for the Halifax suburb of Cole Harbour.

The alert said police were looking for a man armed with a knife and people were advised to remain in their homes. An update provided at 9:45 p.m. said the man had been arrested and there was no longer a risk to the public.

A police spokesperson said Thursday the man was believed to have harmed himself.&nbsp;

In an update Friday, RCMP said the man was suffering from injuries and exposure when he was found. He was taken to hospital and&nbsp;died just after midnight.

RCMP are investigating the incident with the help of Nova Scotia's medical examiner.
