A damaged propane truck that went off the road on the Cobequid Pass on Tuesday afternoon has been removed from the area.

The section of the Trans-Canada Highway in northern Nova Scotia reopened on Wednesday afternoon.

A controlled burn of the remaining propane was conducted to allow the truck to be safely removed.

In a recent update, government spokesperson Gary Andrea said plows have salted the area and maintenance of the road will continue. He advised drivers to proceed with caution through that section.

The four-lane highway was closed in both directions and traffic was being diverted at exits 7 and 11 onto Highway 4, a secondary road that runs parallel to the main highway, the RCMP said in a tweet.

RCMP Cpl. Guillaume Tremblay said Tuesday the road was closed as a precaution and to make it easier to get equipment to the truck, which was on its side in the ditch.

It was snowing at the time of the crash.
