Nova Scotia RCMP say the death of a woman in&nbsp;Five Islands, N.S.,&nbsp;has been declared a homicide.

On Monday around 7 p.m. AT, police said they received a call of shots fired in the area&nbsp;of Sand Point Hill Lane&nbsp;and Wharf Road, leading them to close Wharf Road to Highway 2.

Officers found a woman's body in a home on Sand Point Hill Lane and searched the surrounding area, police said in a news release.

The release said a&nbsp;person of interest was taken into custody&nbsp;on Tuesday but was subsequently released.

"We're not searching for any other suspects.&nbsp;Our investigators believe they have a good idea as to what happened, but there is a difference between what we know and what we can prove in a court of law," Cpl. Chris Marshall said Thursday.

"The investigation is continuing in order to gather information and evidence that would allow us to then enter into a prosecution at some point and lay charges."

No further details were provided&nbsp;about the victim or the person of interest.

A helicopter was used&nbsp;to locate evidence in the investigation, police said.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact police.
