A male&nbsp;has died after being shot by Winnipeg police in the city's North End.

In a Friday evening statement, police reported&nbsp;an "officer-involved incident" with a&nbsp;male at the intersection of Salter Street and Mountain Avenue at about 4:15 p.m.&nbsp;

He was rushed to hospital where he died of his injuries, police said. They did not release his name or age, or any details on the circumstances leading up to the shooting.&nbsp;

Police said they have turned the investigation over to the Independent Investigation&nbsp;Unit of Manitoba.&nbsp;The police watchdog agency investigates all serious incidents involving on- or off-duty&nbsp;police officers in Manitoba.

Winnipeg police make 3 arrests in catalytic converter thefts after months-long investigation

Winnipeg police have made three arrests in connection with a series of catalytic converter thefts. A raid on a scrapyard yielded 13 catalytic converters, $12,500 in Canadian currency as well as drugs.

While converter theft is not a new problem, it is a growing one. In Calgary, for example, police said converter thefts rose from 300 reported thefts in 2020 to 1,014 up until August 2021.
