Premee Mohamed and Darcie Little Badger among this year's Nebula Award winners for science fiction and fantasy

Lipan Apache author Darcie Little Badger and Alberta writer Premee Mohamed are among the winners of the 57th Annual Nebula Awards.
The awards, which are given out by Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America, recognize the best science fiction and fantasy writing. They have been given out annually since 1965.
Mohamed's And What Can We Offer You Tonight won the Nebula Award for Novella. Set in the far future, the novella tells the story of Jewel, an established courtesan who's world is shaken when her friend is murdered by a client.
Mohamed is an Indo-Caribbean scientist and speculative fiction author based in Edmonton. Her books include the science fiction novels Beneath the Rising and A Broken Darkness, and the novellas These Lifeless Things and The Annual Migration of Clouds.
Darcie Little Badger's A Snake Falls to Earth won the Andre Norton Nebula Award for middle-grade and young adult fiction.
A Snake Falls to Earth draws on traditional Lipan Apache storytelling to weave a tale of monsters, magic and family. Following two kids who have no idea the other exists, Nina and Oli find their worlds driven together after a strange sickness befalls Oli's best friend. A Snake Falls to Earth received a Newbery Award honour.
Little Badger is a Lipan Apache author and scientist, who writes science fiction and fantasy that draws on Indigenous culture. Her Locus Award-winning debut novel, Elatsoe, was named to over a dozen best-of-year lists and called one of the Best 100 Fantasy Novels of All Time by TIME. Her writing has appeared in Marvel's Voices: Indigenous Voices #1 and the speculative fiction collection Love After the End.
The winners were voted on and selected by members of Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America.

- Mercedes Lackey, winner of the SFWA Damon Knight Memorial Grand Master Award
- Arley Sorg, Troy L. Wiggins and Petra Mayer (posthumous), winners of the Kate Wilhelm Solstice Award
The awards were presented at the live broadcast of the 57th Annual Nebula Awards ceremony, hosted by authors Connie Willis and Neil Gaiman.
Canadians who have won Nebula Awards in the past include Amal El-Mohtar, Jo Walton, Robert J. Sawyer and William Gibson.
