The East Coast Music Hour has announced the 2022 edition of The Story and the Song.
Over two shows, 14 East Coast artists were invited to write new songs inspired by the themes of TRUST (March 5) and LOST (April 2). Throughout the 60-minute broadcasts, host Bill Roach will engage each songwriter to tell a story about their response to the theme of LOST, then spin the new track.
For the listener, it's a fascinating window into the craft of songwriting. For the artists, it's a unique opportunity to showcase brand new music immediately and directly to a CBC audience.

LOST is how many of us are feeling these days – unable to shake the sense that our lives remain in limbo, and that we're living in a state of not-quite-normal.
Perhaps it's the struggle to find a place in a world of immense social, environmental and political change. Or maybe it's a feeling that you've lost a connection to others – whether it be loved ones, family, even neighbours.
And sometimes just falling in love is like being lost.
LOST is a challenging theme, one that has sparked intense creativity from an exciting, diverse group of East Coast artists, resulting in an impressive playlist of new music.

Trust theme sparks intense creativity

TRUST is a big word these days. Having collectively gone through two extremely challenging years, we've all been witness to an erosion of trust—in political figures, science, media … even our own neighbours.
But to trust is also a beautiful thing—we can trust our instincts, trust our loved ones and trust our community. And to bestow trust on others is one of the most powerful things we can do.
