Another winter storm started moving across Nova Scotia Thursday morning and is expected to make for messy conditions for afternoon rush hour.

It's the second stormy weather day in a row for the province, following wet snowfall Wednesday morning.

CBC meteorologist Tina Simpkin said the storm started moving in from the west Thursday morning. Snowfall amounts are expected to reach&nbsp;about five to 10 centimetres across much of the&nbsp;province and closer to 15 centimetres near the Atlantic coast.

Many schools across the province pre-emptively closed Thursday morning, or announced plans for early dismissals.

The heaviest of snow will begin near noon in western Nova Scotia, and this afternoon heavy snow will fall on the eastern mainland and Cape Breton, Simpkin said.

The snow is expected to end throughout the evening, again starting in the west and moving east.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the Halifax area, where roads could become difficult to navigate in the afternoon, making for&nbsp;"a challenging afternoon commute."

Union and province at odds over change to emergency call staffing

If someone in Nova Scotia calls 911 for a medical emergency, they may be connected to someone who is not a paramedic. The province says the change in the job description is necessary to deal with a staffing shortage, and is actually considered a best practice.

Frantic radio logs reveal confusion, fear as Mounties responded to N.S. shootings

Big fish join Nova Scotia startup's quest for no-contact trawling

A small startup company in Yarmouth, N.S. hopes to take the "ground" out of groundfish trawling with a more efficient and environmentally friendly trawl system it says will eliminate ocean bottom contact and use uncrewed surface drones to find fish.

Man's disappearance adds more heartache for family grieving death of his brother

Jodi Morrissey says her 26-year-old son's disappearance in northern Nova Scotia is another blow to a family dealing with the death a loved one who was shot and killed in November.

Jessie Morrissey, 26, was last seen in Leamington, N.S., on Feb. 13. He is six feet tall, 200 lbs, has short brown hair and blue eyes. He was last seen wearing a grey hoodie, baseball cap, blue jeans and black boots.
