2 more deaths as COVID-19 hospitalizations decline in London area on Friday

There are are 153 patients with the virus in local hospital, with 22 in critical care
The Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU) is reporting two additional deaths of people with COVID-19 on Friday.
Both of the deceased were men in their 80s and fully vaccinated with at least two doses, according to the health unit.
There have now been 23 COVID-related deaths in Middlesex-London in January. According to data from the MLHU, 18 of those deaths were people who were fully vaccinated, including at least seven people with booster doses. Five of the deceased were not vaccinated. The death toll since the pandemic began is now up to 282.
The MLHU reported 224 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, though only people in high-risk jobs or settings are currently being tested. The seven-day rolling average for daily cases is down to 243.
Hospitalizations decline as patients transferred
The London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) is reporting 153 inpatients on Friday, down 13 from the previous day.
Of the total, the hospital network says:
- 91 patients are being treated for COVID-19, up four from the previous day.
- 62 patients tested positive for the virus upon being admitted for other treatment, down 17 from the previous day.
There are 22 patients who require critical care, down by one from Thursday.
Meanwhile, hospitalizations in Elgin-Oxford have climbed by four to 52 on Friday, as some patients are being transferred back to the region from London hospitals.
Southwestern Public Health says there are 10 patients in critical care, up by one from the previous day.
The health unit posted 93 new COVID-19 infections on Friday, and one additional death. There are 860 known ongoing cases in Elgin-Oxford.
Meanwhile, Ontario is reporting 4,114 COVID-19 hospitalizations on Friday, including 590 patients in intensive care units, down by four from the previous day.
The province also reported 64 more COVID-related deaths, though two occured more than a month ago.
