Centennial Collegiate, John Dolan School both expected to return to in-class learning soon
A large high school and a school that serves students with disabilities in Saskatoon have both sent students home as the city deals with a sharp increase in COVID-19 cases.
On Monday, Saskatoon Public Schools announced that classes at Centennial Collegiate and John Dolan School would be moved to remote learning.
All classes at Centennial Collegiate, a large high school with more than 1,000 students will be moving to online learning on Tuesday. Students are expected to return to in-person class on Monday, Jan. 24.
The school division did not state how many cases had been found at the high school. Centennial Collegiate had been placed on the school outbreak list Dec. 20.
John Dolan School, which focuses on students with disabilities, is expected to move to remote learning on Tuesday and Wednesday, and will be back to in-person classes by Thursday. The decision to move the school online was made after a number of necessary nursing staff were unavailable.
Parents at both schools have been notified.
Saskatoon Public Schools said it had been notified of 705 positive cases of COVID-19 from Jan. 4-16 of this year. These numbers are self-reported by students and parents and have not been lab confirmed.
The public school board has implemented extra cleaning protocols and mandatory masking to limit the spread of COVID-19.
