The death of Kadee Burns is being investigated as the city’s 12th homicide of 2021
Kadee Burns's family says they're looking for justice in the wake of her death.
Regina police said Tuesday they were investigating the death of a 16-year-old girl, whose body was found outside a home in the 1200 block of Rae Street just after 2 a.m. CST Monday, as a homicide — the 12th of the year in the city.
Police did not identify the victim by name in a Tuesday news release, but Daphne Head confirmed it was her daughter, Kadee.
She was one of 10 siblings, Head told CBC News.
"She left behind so many loved ones, family and friends," she wrote in a text message Tuesday afternoon.
The teen was known for her big, kind heart and love of makeup, her mother added.
"We want justice and that person put away for what he/she did," she said. "She didn't deserve what happened to her."
Police said Tuesday they were initially called to the Rae Street home with a report of a weapons offence.
When officers arrived, they found the teen, who was later pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
A teenage boy was also taken to hospital with serious injuries, police said Tuesday.
No details have been released around the circumstances of the girl's death.
As of Tuesday afternoon, police said they have not yet identified or arrested any suspects in this case.
The police service said it continues to work with the Saskatchewan Coroners Service to investigate.
