Collision investigations can prove lengthy, police service warns
A collision that killed a young girl riding a scooter is still under analysis, the Saskatoon Police Service says.
Rochelle Dubois has identified the victim as her nine-year old daughter Baeleigh Emily Maurice, according to CTV News.
The collision happened at about 9 a.m. CST last Thursday, according to police. A Ford pickup truck driven by an unidentified 27-year-old woman collided with Maurice on the 600 block of 33rd Street W, although other specifics of the incident remain unclear.
Maurice was taken to hospital and died there.
In an update provided on Monday, the Saskatoon Police Service said its traffic analyst unit is combing data collected from the scene to determine what factors caused the collision.
"Traffic collision investigations are highly specialized and involve a variety of investigative techniques including reconstruction, witness interviews and forensic laboratory testing," the update said.
The police service warned such techniques can result in a lengthy investigation.
"At this time the traffic section is not able to provide a timeline as to when a conclusion will be reached. Updates will be provided when information becomes available."
