Voters in Ottawa-Vanier have been at the ballot box to elect a member of Parliament every two years since 2017.
But the riding, which contains a large Franco-Ontarian population, has been solidly red since 1933.
Mona Fortier(external link) won it with more than 51 per cent of the vote last time around, and also won it in the 2017 byelection.
Fortier is the minister of middle class prosperity, a new role created in 2019. In an interview with CBC Radio's The Current shortly after her appointment was made public, the Liberal MP defined her role as allowing Canadians to thrive by strengthening the economy — a prospect that likely looked different pre-pandemic.
