The P.E.I. Pride Festival&nbsp;kicked off on Sunday with a church service, barbecue in the park and a sold out drag show at The Guild in Charlottetown.

Last year, many of the activities took place virtually due to COVID-19. Many of the events are in person this year.

The P.E.I. Pride Festival is back this summer — and most events will be held in-person. The festival will run for eight days from July 18 to 25, with more than 45 events currently planned.

Organizers say they were forced to cancel a family-friendly drag show in Victoria due to threats of gun violence.

The Pride parade on July 24 will be scaled back to a march due to COVID-19 protocols.

The crack of the bat, the chatter from the dugout and the cheers from the stands were welcome sounds in Charlottetown this weekend as senior baseball returned after a one-year absence due to COVID-19.

Public event brings Indigenous culture to downtown Charlottetown

A Mi'kmaw writer, poet and member of Lennox Island First Nation was able to lead a public gathering in downtown Charlottetown on Saturday for the first time since 2019 due to the pandemic.

'Through COVID it has been extremely hard with not being able to gather not being able to share our knowledge, our passion,' says Julie Pellissier-Lush, a Mi'kmaw writer, poet and member of Lennox Island First Nation.

As barbecue was held at Rochford Square in Charlottetown on Sunday as part of the P.E.I. Pride Festival.
