4 people have died at Tansley Woods in 7 days as staff vaccination rates continue to climb
Two more people have died as a COVID-19 outbreak persists at The Village of Tansley Woods long-term care home in Burlington.
Schlegel Villages, Tansley Woods's operator, confirmed the deaths in an online update posted Monday and said both residents previously tested positive for COVID-19.
That's four people dead in seven days.
"Our thoughts are with family and friends who are feeling this sorrow most acutely at this time," read the statement.
The statement said the people tending to residents care about them. It also said team members are not "the sole risk of transmission."
The vaccination rate among staff has climbed since the first death last Monday.
Early last week, 86 per cent of workers had their first dose of vaccine and 52 per cent were fully vaccinated.
As of Monday, the organization stated "just over 90 per cent of staff have committed to vaccination with their first dose, and 77 per cent have had a second shot."
Schlegel Villages said 98.5 per cent of residents have had a first dose and 97 per cent are fully vaccinated.
The organization stated it would not share the vaccination status of those with COVID-19 or how the virus spread in the home.
The statement said six residents are infected right now and so are three staff. It states there was one new case over the weekend and eight resolved cases.
Halton Region Public Health, which has different figures, reports the total number of infections is 25, with 19 residents, two staff and four non-Halton cases.
