Cardigan MP Lawrence MacAulay says he plans to run for the Liberals in the next federal election, even though the election call has not been made yet.

MacAulay has won the riding in 10 consecutive elections, representing it for 33 years.

He has served in several cabinet portfolios, including&nbsp;Solicitor General,&nbsp;Agriculture and Agri-Food, and his current role as Minister of Veterans Affairs.

MacAulay will be running against Wayne Phelan for the Conservatives. The NDP and&nbsp;Green parties have not officially announced their candidates in that riding.

Wayne Phelan will take another shot at unseating Lawrence MacAulay from the eastern P.E.I. riding of Cardigan in the next federal election.

The next federal election is scheduled for October, 2023. However there is wide speculation that an election could be called sometime this year.

5 P.E.I. visitors with positive rapid test results later confirmed as negative

The first day of rapid tests for visitors entering Prince Edward Island at Borden-Carleton resulted in five positive results for COVID-19, but all five people were later confirmed to be negative when given PCR tests. 

Health officials ask for documentation at the entry point on the P.E.I. side of Confederation Bridge. About 2,000 vehicles passed this way on Sunday, the first day vaccinated arrivals could come to the Island without having to isolate.
