People who received two vaccines can gather indoors without masks
- Quebec reported 88 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday and no new deaths.
- Since the start of the pandemic, there have been 374,406 confirmed cases and 11,202 people have died.
- There are 135 people in hospital (a decrease of 8), including 40 in intensive care (an increase of two).
- 65,578 doses of vaccine were administered in the province over the last 24 hours, for a total of 7,761,010.
- 80 per cent of the eligible population in the province (age 12 and up) have received one dose of vaccine, and 24 per cent have received two doses.
Dr. Mylène Drouin, Montreal's public health director, is warning Habs fans to adhere to public health guidelines in the wake of the team's series-clinching win over the Vegas Golden Knights.
Thousands gathered last night outside the Bell Centre, with little social distancing and few masks to be seen.
In a statement Friday, Drouin warned that despite the decrease in the number of COVID-19 cases, the virus is still circulating — particularly the more contagious Delta variant.
She reinforced the need to avoid large gatherings and events conducive to transmission as long as the target of fully vaccinated Quebecers is not reached.
"I encourage the population to support the Canadiens in small groups, in outdoor places, and to keep their distance. And of course, to get vaccinated," she said.
Fewer restrictions
Additional restrictions are being lifted today with regard to gatherings. People who have received two vaccine doses against COVID-19 are allowed to gather indoors without masks, starting today.
So far, 23 per cent of Quebec's eligible population is fully vaccinated. You can find a list of walk-in clinics here.
Outdoor festivals can admit up to 3,500 attendees while enforcing physical distancing between people from different households.
The whole province will be moving to the green zone as of Monday, meaning restrictions for gatherings and group sports will be eased.
Full details on what that means are available on the province's website.
Anyone wishing to get a first dose of vaccine can now do so. If you are looking to get a second dose, and received your first dose more than eight weeks ago, you can check to see which vaccine is available in your region here.
