Entry in five-ish words

"Emotional chaos at a wedding."

The story's source of inspiration

"I was inspired by the feeling of intense discomfort that occurs when you're expected to conform and you just can't do it."

First lines

Weddings are not your thing, but here you are. It's really your sister and mother's big day. Rahul, future brother-in-law to be, is an afterthought. Your mother is bursting with so much pride that she might spontaneously combust. At least that would be interesting.

She's changed her sari three times already and the ceremony hasn't even started. There's the "arriving at the venue" sari (dark green), the "guests have arrived" sari (baby blue with beaded embroidery) and the "I'm so happy! Let the ceremonies begin!" sari (light purple with lots of embroidered designs and jewelled things that don't register on your consciousness). They're all fancy and expensive. That's all that you know.
