There's a new virtual Indigenous comics symposium — and it's free to attend

The event is free and open to the public. It takes place on Wednesday, March 24.

Niigaanwewidam James Sinclair and Kateri Akiwenzie-Damm have organized a new Indigenous virtual graphic novel symposium.
The all-day event is free and open to the public. It takes place on Wednesday, March 24, 2021.
The program will feature a keynote presentation by David A. Robertson and panels discussing Indigenous independent comics and Indigenous Marvel comics.
The day will wrap with a panel about the This Place: 150 Years Retold comic anthology.
Robertson is an author and graphic novelist based in Winnipeg. The multi-talented writer of Swampy Cree heritage has published 25 books across a variety of genres, including the graphic novels Will I See?, Sugar Falls and the new Reckoner Rises series.
This Place is a graphic novel anthology that examines the 150-plus years of Canadian history since Confederation from the perspective of Indigenous Canadians. The book features work by Indigenous authors from across the country,
Symposium participants include Tasha Spillett, Natasha Donovan, Sean Carleton, Neal Shannacappo, Kyle Charles, Weshoyot Alvitre and Darcie Little Badger as well as several contributors to This Place.
The event is being sponsored by the University of Manitoba Department of Native Studies, the UMIH Graphic Narrative Research Cluster, the University of Toronto Scarborough Department of English, Highwater Press and Kegedonce Press.
