The Weeknd's hit single "Blinding Lights" has officially broken the Billboard record for most weeks in the Hot 100 chart's Top 10. This week will be its 52nd week in the Top 10, marking a full year spent near the top of the charts. (It peaked at No. 1 in April, staying there for four weeks.)

The Toronto star's single has now surpassed Post Malone's "Circles" for longest run in the Top 10 ("Circles" held that record with 39 weeks). "Blinding Lights" has also beat out Ed Sheeran's "Shape of You" and the Chainsmokers and Halsey's "Closer" (both hitting 27 weeks) for most weeks in the top five, with the Weeknd clocking 43 weeks total. "Blinding Lights" is also tied with "Closer" and Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars' "Uptown Funk" for most time spent in the top three, all sitting at 21 weeks.

"Blinding Lights" was first released in November 2019 and debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 11. With the exception of two weeks in December, when the song dropped into the Top 20, it has remained a constant presence in the Top 10. Much of this success can be credited to a few things: critical acclaim that the Weeknd's 2020 album, After Hours, received; the TikTok dance challenge that went viral featuring "Blinding Lights;" the singer's recent Super Bowl performance; and the controversy surrounding the Weeknd's Grammy snub.

This week, "Blinding Lights" landed at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100, with another After Hours cut joining it in the Top 10: "Save Your Tears."

Yesterday, the Juno Awards nominations were announced, and the Weeknd leads this year with six nods including single of the year for "Blinding Lights" and album of the year for After Hours.
