Hamilton has welcomed its first baby of the year at St. Joseph's Healthcare.
The 2021 New Year's baby—named Jayden Anthony Carter Anderson—was born around 6:55 a.m., hospital spokesperson Elaine Mitropoulos said in an email to reporters Friday.
Hamilton residents Sierra Johnson and Anthony Anderson are the parents.
"Having the New Year's baby is what we wanted, but we didn't think it was going to happen," Johnson is quoted as saying in the email.
"We're really happy about it."
Jayden was healthy and weighed approximately 4.02 kilograms or eight pounds, 14 ounces, the hospital said.

He has four older siblings, Alexander, Ariyah, Semiah, and Peyton.
"While mom and dad say COVID-19 made 2020 a stressful year, they're looking forward to 2021 with their new bundle of joy," Mitropoulos said.
