Bylaw officers laid 13 charges against businesses that didn't follow COVID-19 rules last week
Tim Hortons and The Beer Store are two of the newest businesses that broke COVID-19 bylaws according to the city of Hamilton.
The city website shows a Tim Hortons on South Service Road in Stoney Creek didn't adequately enforce capacity limits, physical distancing or masking in the store.
The media team for the chain told CBC News in an email the store owner "is looking into this situation further."
"However, we can confirm that the restaurant was closed to guests when the events occurred and that team members were in the restaurant after the last shift of the day. In accordance with local COVID-19 regulations and bylaws and Tim Hortons policies, team members are required to wear masks and to follow all other relevant safety protocols when inside the restaurant," read the email.
Meanwhile, The Beer Store on Mohawk Road East didn't conduct required screenings for anyone entering the store according to the website.
It did not respond to a request for comment.
The charges come as Hamilton entered lockdown, only allowing businesses that sell essential items to remain open.
Tim Hortons and The Beer Store make up four of the 13 charges laid on local businesses last week for failing to abide by pandemic protocols. Most of the businesses on the list this week broke multiple rules.
WM Discount and Liquidation on Barton Street East had no safety plan available and didn't do screening according to the site. Golden Grain Bakery on Highway 8 in Stoney Creek faced the same charges plus one for a lack of masking. Salti's Store on Fennell Avenue East also failed to properly enforce masking and had no safety plan available.
The other two offenders on the list, Big Bear Food Mart on Wellington Street North and Supreme Pizza on Upper Wentworth Street, had no safety plan available and didn't enforce masking respectively.
Two weeks ago, bylaw officers laid 20 charges.
