Halifax Regional Municipality's overnight winter parking ban goes into&nbsp;effect tomorrow,&nbsp;Dec.&nbsp;15, and runs until March 31, 2021.

While the ban is in effect, the city can block street parking&nbsp;between 1&nbsp;and 6 a.m. on nights when there is bad weather&nbsp;and sidewalk clearing operations.

The city will advise when overnight street parking is banned via 

to get notified via e-mail, phone or text message.

Vehicles obstructing snow removal or winter maintenance operations can also be&nbsp;ticketed and or towed regardless of the time or date.

The city cautions that vehicles hanging out of driveways as well as lawn decor such as planters can pose potential obstructions for crews clearing the sidewalks and should be removed.

They also advise that&nbsp;the ban may be enforced multiple days or nights in the event of ongoing weather or clearing operations.

An emergency shelter on North Mountain now has a specialized satellite phone. The area has no access to landlines or cell service. The phone now gives travellers a way to get help.

In the hands of police, stun guns like Tasers are designed to save lives, but when the weapons don't incapacitate someone there can be fatal consequences — from officers using lethal force to a person continuing to harm themselves.

Researchers hope for new policies on housing for LGBTQ seniors

Researchers at Dalhousie University who are gathering information on housing for LGBTQ seniors are hoping their work may help inform the Nova Scotia government's discussion on affordable housing — and that it will eventually help shape national policy too.

Police investigating shots fired at Pictou Landing First Nation lobster fisherman

RCMP in Pictou County, N.S., have four persons in custody after reports of shots fired Sunday in the area of Pictou Landing First Nation. The chief of the First Nation says a lobster fisherman from the band was fired at. He was not injured.
